African countries going to the polls in 2019

is the incumbent president, Cyril Ramaphosa who took over leadership of the country after the resignation of Jacob Zuma over corruption charges, as well as whoever the Democratic Alliance (DA) led by Mmusi Maimane and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) led by Julius Malema fields as candidates.

Malawi : Another country planning to hold its presidential elections this year is Malawi . Scheduled for the 21st of May 2019, the major contestants in this year’s elections are incumbent president Peter Mutharika of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), who amid mounting corruption charges and demands to resign, is hoping to win the elections; former president Joyce Banda of the People’s Party who herself in 2013 was embroiled in a heated corruption scandal; Lazarus Chakwera of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and Vice president Saulosi Klaus Chilima running under the United Transformation Movement (UTM) who has separated from the president, citing corruption as his reason.

Former president, Joyce Banda is back from her self-imposed exile and is running for president of Malawi this year.
